The Bengal cat's coat comes in 2 different patterns:

The spotted or the marbled

 

The Bengal Spotted

 

The "spotted" or "rosetteted" pattern is linked to a single gene called "T+" (dominant wild-type gene).

The different types of "spots" that can be distinguished are the result of selective breeding to obtain a coat resembling that of wild felines.

 

Thus, the spotted pattern includes:

* Simple spots: patches of solid color. (*1)

* Arrowhead/spearhead rosettes: Two-tone spots, as the name suggests, shaped like an arrowhead. (*2)

* Open rosettes: two-colored rosettes in the shape of more or less closed footprints. (*3)

* Closed and set rosettes: two-tone rosettes with one color in the center and surrounded by a black border. (*4)

 

Each marking is unique, and everyone has their own preference regarding the size and design of the rosette.
